How to Service and Repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2000 Toyota Tacoma?

You can start Transmission Position Switch/Sensor repair by removing the front exhaust pipe together with the heat insulator. The service requires removal of 3 oil cooler pipe clamps to disconnect the oil cooler pipe. Begin by detaching the elbow and O-ring before moving to disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector and remove the lock washer and nut along with bolt and switch. Use the new park/neutral position switch and bolt for installation while torquing them to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) followed by applying a new lock plate with nut installation which requires 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) torque. Bend the lock plate claws to keep the nut secure. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector following adjustment of the switch's position. To continue install the elbow followed by a new O-ring before torquing it to 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.). Torque the oil cooler pipe to 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) while connecting it and reinstall the 3 oil cooler pipe clamps. Put back the front exhaust pipe followed by the heat insulator at the end.
