2000 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: Start power steering pump repair and maintenance by first separating the return hose through clip and hose removal while being cautious about drive belt fluid spillage. Use Special Service Tool: 09631-22020 along with the pressure feed tube to disconnect from the PS gear assembly after removing 2 clamp plate set nuts and the bolt and the 2 clamp plates and holders from the tube. Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 enables users to remove the drive belt after loosening bolt A and then bolt B. The PS vane pump assembly with pressure feed tube requires using Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 to loosen bolt A until the pump assembly can be removed but leaving bolt A in place. Separate the pressure feed tube by disconnecting the oil pressure switch from the union bolt while watching out for the switch to prevent drops and replace the switch if it shows damage. Use a wide-open wrench to remove both the union bolt along with its gasket. The installation requires tightening the union bolt using a new gasket to 52 Nm (525 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) while ensuring the tube stopper contacts the front bracket before mounting the oil pressure switch and torquing it to 21 Nm (210 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Begin by tightening bolts A and B on the pressure-feed-tube-mounted PS vane assembly just enough before using Special Service Tool 09249-63010 to tension the drive belt and torque bolt A to a value of 29 Nm then torque bolt B to 43 Nm while connecting the oil pressure switch with caution against connector exposure to oil. Users must torque the pressure feed tube to 32 Nm (326 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.) when using Special Service Tool: 09631-22020, while keeping the tool in a parallel position to the torque wrench. After connecting the tube to the PS gear assembly, users must install the clamp plates, holders, and bolt, followed by torquing the 2 clamp plate set nuts to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.). Completing the process requires installation of the clip then connection of the return hose followed by the power steering system bleeding procedure.
