• Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2000 Toyota RAV4?

  A: Start service and repair of fuel injectors by first removing the air cleaner assembly and cylinder head cover and disconnecting the throttle body from the intake manifold with the engine wire that requires disconnecting the 4 injector connectors and removing 2 clamps from wire brackets while also detaching the engine wire protector and clamp. Start by disconnecting the vacuum hose from port E of VSV and the EGR hose from the vacuum modulator while loosening the cylinder head side of the EGR pipe union nut and removing the 2 nuts and EGR valve and pipe assembly with its gasket. The engine compartment R/B No.2 disconnects first followed by unfastening the union bolt of the fuel inlet hose and delivery pipe until the fuel inlet hose separates from the fuel filter outlet. During this process place a shop towel under the fuel filter and remove the air hose from the intake manifold port and disconnect delivery pipe from the 4 injectors to take away the delivery pipe and fuel inlet hose assembly. The procedure requires removing 4 injectors alongside their 2 spacers while handling them with care until all 4 injectors and 2 O-rings along with each insulator and grommet are extracted from the cylinder head. Installation requires new insulators and grommets for the injectors while applying gasoline to moisten the new O-rings before placement and positioning the spacers on the cylinder head before inserting the 4 injectors. The delivery pipe with its 2 bolts should be installed between the intake manifold and cylinder head. Check the smooth rotation of injectors and replace the O-rings if this is not possible. Install the injector connectors at an upward angle before tightening their 2 bolts to 13 Nm (130 kg.cm, 9 ft.lb). Afterwards, mount the air assist system hose to the intake manifold port and fasten the fuel inlet hose to the fuel filter by using 2 new gaskets and the union bolt which requires a torque of 29 Nm (300 kg.cm, 22 ft.lb). After reinstalling engine compartment R/B No.2 the installer should attach the EGR valve and pipe to the intake manifold by tightening the nut to 13 Nm (130 kg.cm, 9 ft.lb) and the union nut to 59 Nm (600 kg.cm, 43 ft.lb). Proceed by connecting the engine wire to the intake manifold where No.1 and No.3 injector connectors should be brown and No.2 and No.4 should be gray while also reconnecting the throttle body to the intake manifold and installing the cylinder head cover followed by air cleaner assembly reinstallation.
