2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Differential Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Perform Differential Carrier Service and Repair Removal and Installation on 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The first step for differential carrier removal begins with wheel removal where appropriate torque (131 Nm or 1,340 kgf-cm and 97 ft.lbs) must be applied to both rear wheels. Before moving forward you should drain the hypoid gear oil with 49 Nm torque (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.). The brake lines need removal using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 but first disconnect the brake lines and remove each clip by applying torque of 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) on both sides. You must disconnect the parking brake cables by taking off two clips then the pin before separating the bellcrank attachment point from both sides. Cautiously remove axle shafts after unscrewing their 4 retaining nuts with 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 90 ft. lbs.) torque strength followed by axle shaft removal until O-ring extraction and protect the oil seal from damage. Apply this procedure to the opposite shaft. You must disconnect the rear propeller shaft by applying matchmarks between the differential flange and propeller shaft then removing 4 nuts, bolts, washers with 106 Nm (1,080 kgf-cm, 78 ft. lbs.) torque before securing the propeller shaft. The final step is to take out the differential carrier assembly by unscrewing 10 nuts and washers while applying 72 Nm torque (740 kgf-cm, 53 ft. lbs.) then remove the gasket. Reverse the removal procedure for installation and complete it by filling the differential with hypoid gear oil and brake fluid reservoir followed by brake system bleeding and leak inspection and ABS speed sensor signal confirmation.
