2000 Toyota Corolla Control Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear control arm on 2000 Toyota Corolla?
A: The service and repair process of the rear control arm starts when you remove the rear wheel while maintaining a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Begin exhaust center pipe degradation by removing its components according to the torque values which stipulate 32 Nm (330 kgf.cm, 24 ft. lbs.) for the exhaust front pipe to exhaust center pipe connection and 19 Nm (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.) for the exhaust center pipe to exhaust tailpipe coupling. Remove the strut rod by taking out its two bolts and nuts but always stabilize the suspension when torquing both fasteners to 91 Nm (930 kgf.cm, 67 ft. lbs.). Begin the No. 2 lower suspension arm disassembly process by loosening a nut and washer to detach it from the suspension member using 125 Nm (1,226 kgf.cm, 89 ft. lbs.) torque before finishing the removal of nut, washer and arm from the axle carrier at the same torque amount left-hand thread facing the carrier side along with suspension stabilization before nut torquing. Apply the specific torque values of 74 Nm (760 kgf.cm, 55 ft. lbs.) for type A and 19 Nm (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.) for type B to the suspension member bolts before using a jack and removing the 6 bolts from the member. After disconnecting the No. 1 lower suspension arm from the axle carrier, let the suspension member drop and remove its bolt and washer and arm. To disassemble the No. 2 lower suspension arm professionals must first loosen the 2 lock nuts then modify the adjusting tube position before extracting the 2 lock nuts. The reassembly process needs the two lock nuts installed before rotating the adjusting tube until A and B measurements have no more than 3.0 mm (0.118 inch) difference. The No. 2 lower suspension arm should be adjusted to 502.0 plus or minus 1.5 mm (19.764 plus or minus 0.059 inch) while the two lock nuts receive a temporary torque of 56 Nm (570 kgf.cm, 41 ft. lbs.) before inspecting the rear wheel alignment. After finishing installation you should check the rear wheel alignment. The case procedure starts by carrying out installation in reverse order from removal.
