2000 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2000 Toyota Corolla?
A: First service and repair procedures on the compressor clutch by enabling engine idle while running A/C for 10 minutes and disabling power from the negative battery cable. To start the clutch service you need to empty refrigerant from the cooling system after removing the drive belt and under engine panel. Remove 2 bolts to detach discharge and suction hoses from the compressor before you immediately cap the exposed fittings to stop moisture or dirt entry in the system. Disconnect the compressor connector while removing its 3 bolts. When installing the compressor use 3 bolts which require 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb) torque and attach the connector. Proceed to connect the hoses after applying compressor oil to 2 new O-rings but restrict time between cap removal until hose attachment with 2 bolts which must have a torque setting of 10 Nm (100 kg.cm, 7 ft.lb). The maintenance process includes drive belt installation together with a terminal cable negative connection to the battery before evacuating the system to add designated refrigerant amount 650 plus or minus 50 g (22.93 plus or minus 22.93 oz.). To conclude the inspection process you need to use a gas leak detector to search for leakage and tighten the joints according to specifications.
