- Q: How to Properly Service and Install an Air Bag Sensor on 2000 Toyota Camry?A: The first step to remove the Air Bag sensor involves disconnecting its connectors from the installed assembly and avoiding contact with IC terminals to prevent static damage. You need a T40 torx wrench (Part No. 09042-00020 or a locally produced tool to unscrew the 4 holding screws of the Air Bag sensor assembly. The SRS recommends installing new replacement parts only during sensor repairs because Air Bag sensor assemblies should never be used again after undergoing an Air Bag deployment in an accident. The same T40 torx wrench should be used to install the Air Bag sensor assembly before tightening its 4 screws to 20 Nm (205 kg.cm, 15 ft.lb). Attaching the Air Bag sensor connectors should be done during the last stage of sensor assembly installation. The sensor assembly must be torqued to its specified value while any dropped assembly or damaged unit requiring replacement should get replaced. The post-installation shake test will verify the absence of loosening in the sensor assembly. Also check that SRS wiring remains apart from all other components during installation.
