2000 Toyota Camry Air Bag Parts Q&A
Q: How Should You Safely Deploy and Dispose of a Side Air Bag on 2000 Toyota Camry?
A: Operating on a vehicle containing SRS technology or dismantling side Air Bags starts with official deployment of Air Bags by Special Service Tool 09082-00700 (SRS Air Bag Deployment Tool) in a location which must be outside with no electrical interference and at least 10 m (33 ft) distant from the Air Bag. Wear protective gloves and safety glasses during the process and leave a deployed Air Bag to cool down until it reaches 30 minutes. Set aside the seatback assembly and side Air Bag assembly with the deployment side oriented toward the top. A service-purpose wire harness with at least 1.25 sq.mm (0.0019 sq.in) stripped wire harness section serves to safely secure the side Air Bag assembly because loose wires are hazardous. The side Air Bag assembly should be positioned inside a tire while facing the deployment direction towards the wheel inner space of a tire that meets 185 mm (7.28 in) width and 360 mm (14.17 in) inner diameter. Position at least two tires over and under the tire which contains the side Air Bag assembly then use two wire harnesses for anchoring. Use the Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 and 09082-0750 to connect to the side Air Bag assembly connector and set the black clip to the battery negative terminal and red clip to the battery positive terminal. The activation of the deployment switch should only proceed if there are no people within 10 m (33 ft) of the deployment area. This action simultaneously activates the Air Bag deployment while causing LED illumination. The side Air Bag assembly must be withdrawn from the tire after deployment then put in a vinyl bag for tight wrapping so it can be treated as standard parts waste; proper hand washing follows with precautions against water contact with the deployed Air Bag assembly.
