2000 Toyota Avalon Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
A: Onus lies in inspecting A/T fluid and coolant leaks before checking the A/T fluid quantity. The service of the radiator starts with removing the battery tray and battery after which the engine under cover can be taken off. Before service and repair of the radiator begin with draining engine coolant then disconnecting the No.3 engine room relay block and No.1 cooling fan connector followed by wire clamps from the No.1 fan shroud and No.2 cooling fan connector then No.1 ECT switch wire connector with wire clamps from the No.2 fan shroud removed. You should first disconnect A/T oil cooler hoses as well as upper and lower radiator hoses from the radiator. Obtain the radiator and cooling fans assembly by removing the 2 bolts and 2 upper supports and tightening them to 12.8 Nm (130 kgf.cm, 9 ft. lbs.) before lifting out the assembly to remove the 2 lower supports. Begin the removal by disabling the No.1 ECT switch and both No.1 and No.2 cooling fans through their respective 2 Torque 5.0 Nm (50 kgf.cm, 44 inch lbs.) bolted connections. The disassembly process requires users to remove the cushion from the radiator followed by assembling Special Service Tool: 09230-01010 to adjust the stopper bolt to achieve a dimension "B" of 0.2 - 0.5 mm (0.008 - 0.020 inch). First uncaulk the lock plates using the tool before extracting the tanks and O-rings by tapping the bracket gently and pulling out the O-ring. The oil cooler detachment from the lower tank requires removal of the pipe along with nuts and plate washers. New O-rings need installation on the oil cooler prior to fitting the lower tank assembly and securing plate washers and nuts to 8.3 Nm torque while also securing the pipe at 14.7 Nm. Check for any damage on the lock plate while verifying no deformities exist to prevent future reassembly issues. After new O-ring installation the tanks must be checked for foreign matter and then the lock plate should be tapped to seal properly. Position the Special Service Tool: 09230-01010 and set the stopper bolt to reach the dimension "B" of 8.4 millimeters (0.34 inches). Caulk the lock plate during application while protecting nearby surface areas and verify the lock plate measurement stands at between 7.4 - 7.8 mm (0.2959 - 0.3119 inch). To complete the installation follow the reverse steps used for removal by installing the cushion afterward.
