Throttle Body

Begin the throttle body removal of 1ZZ-FE control system by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. Start by draining the engine coolant followed by the removal of the cylinder head cover No. 2 through the process of unfastening 2 nuts and 2 clips. The air cleaner cap sub-assembly removal involves disconnecting the mass air flow meter connector designated as [A] and the VSV connector marked [B] while using clamps [C] to release the 2 wire harnesses. Remove the VSV connections of fuel vapor feed hose No. 1 [D] and fuel vapor feed hose No. 3 [E] as well as ventilation hose No. 1 from the cylinder head cover. Remove the air cleaner cap while disconnecting the air cleaner hose No. 1 by loosening its clamp bolt. The throttle body removal process begins with disconnecting the throttle control motor connector followed by the removal of water by-pass hose [B] as well as water by-pass hose No. 2 [C] which are both detached from the throttle body. Complete the removal by uninstalling both bolts and two nuts that fasten the throttle body before removing its integral intake manifold gasket.

One must start servicing or repairing the throttle body for a 1ZZ-FE engine by first disconnecting the battery negative terminal. Remove the cylinder head cover No. 2 by detaching its 2 nuts and 2 clips while draining the engine coolant. Start by disconnecting the assembly parts of the air cleaner cap which includes the mass air flow meter connector [A], VSV connector [B], and the two clamps [C]. The first [D] and third [E] fuel vapor feed hoses and the ventilation hose No. 1 must be detached from the VSV for this procedure. Roll off the hose clamp bolt and disconnect air cleaner hose No. 1 to withdraw the air cleaner cap and hose assembly. The throttle body assembly removal process starts with removing two components - the throttle control motor connector along with water by-pass hose [B] and water by-pass hose No. 2 [C]. To end the procedure remove the throttle body gasket from the intake manifold after disconnecting its 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

Take off the 2 nuts and 2 clips.

Reconnect the battery negative terminal torqued to 5.4 Nm, add engine coolant, check for leaks, and reinstall cylinder head cover No. 2 with the 2 nuts and 2 clips torqued to 7.0 Nm.

Connect the battery negative terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kg-cm, 48 in-lb).

Connect the ventilation hose No. 1 to the cylinder head cover, followed by the fuel vapor feed hoses No. 3 and No. 1 to the VSV, then install the 2 wire harness clamps and reconnect the VSV and mass air flow meter connectors.

Take off the 2 nuts and 2 clips.

Place it back with the air cleaner hose, tighten the hose clamp bolt to 2.0 N.m (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf), and reconnect the ventilation hose No. 1, fuel vapor feed hoses No. 3 and No. 1, the 2 wire harness clamps, the VSV connector, and the mass air flow meter connector.

Connect the water by-pass hose No. 2 and the water by-pass hose.

Disconnect the throttle control motor connector and both water by-pass hoses from the throttle body, then remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts to take off the throttle body and remove the gasket from the intake manifold.
