Service or repair of the parking brake starts by taking off the rear wheel using 103 Nm torque force then proceeding to remove the rear disc brake assembly while removing its two installation bolts and breaking caliper except for the flexible hose which needs suspension at a safe height without stretching. You should let go of the parking brake lever so you can pull out the disc but you should adjust the shoe until you reach wheel movement freedom. Special Service Tool: 09717-20010 should be used to remove two shoe return springs when dismantling while Special Service Tool: 09718-20010 should be used for assembly. The shoe strut and compression spring should be removed first but the strut needs to have the spring facing forward when reassembling the parts. To remove the front shoe users must first slide it out then take off its adjuster followed by cutting the tension spring loose before taking out the front shoe, tension spring and both cups, shoe hold-down spring and pin. You should slide out the rear shoe before removing its tension spring and disconnecting the parking brake cable from the lever while also taking out the 2 caps shoe hold-down spring and pin. During inspections check that all parts free of rust and damage and measure brake shoe lining thickness with a ruler to replace shoes when minimum requirements are not met or lining shows severe wear. Standard thickness for linings is 2.5 mm and minimum thickness allowed is 1.0 mm. A brake drum gauge (standard: 190.0 mm (7.480 in.), maximum: 191.0 mm (7.520 in.)) must be used to measure the disc inside diameter. Replace or grind the disc if it exceeds the maximum limit or shows scoring. Application of chalk to the disc inside surface followed by necessary lining grinding allows verification of proper parking brake lining to disc contact. Use a feeler gauge to measure the parking brake shoe to lever clearance (standard ranges from 0.35 mm (0.0138 in.) below). Replacement of the shim requires a screwdriver to remove the C-washer along with the shim. Insert the proper size shim afterward and confirm the clearance meets specifications with the feeler gauge. High-temperature grease is used to coat specified parts during reassembly that occurs in the opposite sequence of disassembly steps. The parking brake shoe adjustment should be done by installing the hub nuts temporarily then removing the hole plug while you turn the adjuster until the disc locks before returning the adjuster 8 notches and reinstalling the hole plug. To settle the parking brake shoes along with the disc the vehicle needs to drive at 50 km/h (31 mph) speed on dry level and safe terrain while using 98 N (10 kgf, 19.8 lbs.) of force through the lever with the release button activated. This should be repeated over 400 meters (0.25 mile) two or three times until final parking brake lever travel adjustment.

Follow the reverse order of disassembly, applying high-temperature grease to specified parts.
