Axle Assembly

The first step of rear axle shaft assembly requires you to install new deflector gasket and deflector components onto the shaft and ensure the notches match up correctly. Six bolts must be passed through the axle hub followed by inserting a washer plate through the hub bolt before tightening the hub nut. Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly as the following step. Place the backing plate on the rear axle bearing assembly then screw in four parking brake plate to rear axle housing bolts using two socket wrenches and a press. The installation process now requires the rear axle shaft plate washer to be placed on the shaft followed by using a new rear axle bearing retainer inner on the shaft.

The rear axle shaft installation requires Special Service Tool 09521-25011 which dies a press for affixing the shaft to the bearing assembly of the axle. A snap ring expander lets you put in the new rear axle shaft snap ring. The installation of axle shaft oil seals requires Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 09951-00770 as well as a hammer to perform the work. Begin by inserting a new O-ring before joining the behind axle shaft with its backing plate by applying 4 nuts to a torque value of 123 Nm (1,254 kgf-cm, 91 ft-lbf). You should install the parking brake shoe followed by the parking brake shoe strut and parking brake shoe strut compression spring and parking brake shoe return tension spring. The next installation step involves attaching the rear disc along with the rear disc brake caliper assembly. Place the rear speed sensor then add brake fluid to the reservoir before bleeding out the master cylinder together with the brake line. Check the level of brake fluid inside the reservoir as well as inspect for fluid leaks near the system components. To finish you must put on the rear wheel along with torqueing it to 112 Nm (1,142 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf) and inspect then adjust the parking brake lever travel followed by checking the ABS speed sensor signal.

The first step to replace a rear axle shaft assembly requires disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the wheel from the rear of the vehicle. Remove break fluid from the system after draining it but wash off all fluid that touches painted areas. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 along with the brake tube separation method to remove the rear disc brake caliper assembly and detach the clip and flexible hose before loosening the 2 bolts and their 2 washers to extract it. Then follow the next sequence by uninstalling the rear disc along with the parking break shoe return tension spring followed by the parking brake shoe strut and the parking brake shoe. The parking brake cable requires disconnection from the parking brake plate after removing both its bolts. The first step consists of removing both the rear speed sensor followed by removing the rear axle shaft through the operation of unfastening the 4 nuts and the parking brake plate installation and O-ring. The rear axle shaft oil seal can be removed through use of Special Service Tool: 09308-00010.

Remove the rear axle shaft oil seal using Special Service Tool: 09308-00010.

Install the rear disc and connect the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

Install the rear axle shaft plate washer to the rear axle shaft LH, followed by the new rear axle bearing retainer inner LH.

Pass the 6 bolts through the axle hub and tighten the hub nut.

Remove the speed sensor rear LH and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH.

Fill the reservoir with brake fluid, bleed the master cylinder and brake line, inspect the brake fluid level in the reservoir, check for brake fluid leakage, and finally reinstall the rear wheel, torquing to 112 Nm (1,142 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.).

Install the flexible hose with a new clip, then use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to install the brake tube onto the flexible hose, with torque specifications of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) without the tool or 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) with the tool.

Position the parking brake plate on a new rear axle hub and bearing assembly, and install the four housing bolts using two socket wrenches and a press.

Remove the rear speed sensor and the rear axle shaft by taking off the four nuts and the parking brake plate, followed by removing the O-ring.
