Starter

The first step for starter motor servicing requires a check of both connector connections and accessory installations particularly the theft deterrent system. Connectors can be detached first while starter wires are separated using a 8.8 N.m torque value (90 kgf.cm, 70 in.lbf). The starter requires removal of its two bolts at a torque setting of 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf). The installation process follows the exact opposite sequence of how to remove the components.

Apply a torque of 1.5 N.m (15 kgf.cm, 13 in.lbf) for the 1.4 kW type and 3.6 N.m (39 kgf.cm, 34 in.lbf) for the 1.8 kW type.

Ensure the connector connection and accessory installations, such as the theft deterrent system, are checked.

Reinstall the plunger, new gasket, end cover, and lead clamp with 3 bolts, applying torques of 2.5 N.m (25 kgf.cm, 22 in.lbf) for 1.4 kW and 3.6 N.m (37 kgf.cm, 32 in.lbf) for 2.0 kW.

Reassemble by installing the intake manifold assembly, connecting the throttle body assembly to the intake manifold, installing the intake air connector, reconnecting the accelerator cable, and finally installing the throttle body cover.

For installation, follow the reverse order of removal.

Tighten the terminal nuts to a torque of 17 N.m (173 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf).

Apply a torque of 39 Nm (400 kg.cm, 29 ft.lb).

Begin by disassembling it, which involves removing the field frame and armature by disconnecting the lead wire from the magnetic switch terminal and removing the two through bolts.

Connect the starter connector.

Remove the 2 bolts securing the starter.

Remove the O-ring and use a new one upon reassembly.
