    Q:
How do you service and repair the front Wheel Hub on Scion tC? Posted by Customer
    A:
Maintenance and repair tasks on the front axle hub require first removing the front wheel along with disconnecting the front disc brake caliper and disc. A dial indicator measurement of the axle hub backlash should not exceed 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch); if these values are exceeded replace the bearing. The bearing needs replacement when the axle hub deviation measurement reaches 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) during dial indicator testing. After removing the front stabilizer link assembly nut you must use a 6 mm hexagon wrench if the ball joint turns for successful disconnect. Remove the front axle hub nut with Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 and a hammer and your hand while holding the brake pads fastened. You should disconnect the front speed sensor by undoing the bolt while gently separating it from the steering knuckle but maintaining its safety. Seal the caliper from hanging through string attachment after removing the two bolts from the front disc brake cylinder assembly. The technician will remove the front disc along with the tie rod end sub-assembly using Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 and the front No. 1 suspension lower arm sub-assembly. The drive shaft connection to the axle hub requires a plastic-faced hammer for disconnection before removing the steering knuckle. The technician should remove the front lower ball joint assembly with Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 followed by the front axle hub hole snap ring extraction using snap ring pliers and completion of front axle hub sub-assembly replacement with Special Service Tool: 09520-00031. The axle hub bearing inner race extraction requires Special Service Tool: 09950-40011 and its accessories. The front disc brake dust cover requires its three bolts to be unfastened during removal. To install the part press the new axle hub bearing into the steering knuckle through the use of Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 and others and secure the front disc brake dust cover with a torque of 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.). The axle hub sub-assembly requires Special Service Tool: 09608-32010 and others to perform a press operation followed by hole snap ring installation before torquing the lower ball joint nut to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) with a new cotter pin in place. The front axle assembly replacement process includes securing steering knuckle bolts to 240 Nm (2,447 kgf-cm, 177 ft. lbs.) and lower arm sub-assembly bolts to 89 Nm (908 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.). Fasten together the tie rod end along with the front stabilizer link assembly then tighten them to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) and 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.) forces. Put the front disc and the disc brake cylinder assembly together by torquing to 107 Nm (1,090 kgf-cm, 79 ft. lbs.). Finish the repair by installing a fresh axle hub nut to 216 Nm and then secure it with a chisel and hammer before reinstalling the wheel that requires a torque of 103 Nm. The service technician should examine and correct the front wheel alignment also verify the ABS speed sensor signal.

    Q:
How to replace the FRONT WHEEL HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH on Scion tC? Posted by Customer
    A:
Replacing the FRONT WHEEL HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH requires first disconnecting the front wheel and then separating the front stabilizer link assembly LH. Use Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 to remove the FRONT WHEEL HUB LH NUT before disconnecting the speed sensor front LH and removing the front disc brake caliper assembly LH by eliminating its two bolts while sustaining it through support to protect the flexible hose. Use Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 to disconnect the tie rod end sub-assembly LH while removing the front disc by ensuring no lubricant contamination on its friction surfaces and proceeding to separate the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH. Use a plastic hammer on the front wheel assembly LH to detach its drive shaft from the wheel hub while protecting the boot and speed sensor rotor followed by removing the 2 bolts and 2 nuts and the steering knuckle from the shock absorber. To detach the lower ball joint assembly front LH you must first remove its cotter pin and nut before using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to remove the ball joint. Recover the front wheel hub LH hole snap ring through snap ring pliers while using Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 to extract the front wheel hub sub-assembly LH from the steering knuckle positioned under light force in a soft vise. To extract the bearing inner race located outside of the wheel hub sub-assembly you must use a combination of tools including Special Service Tool: 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04010) 09950-60010 and 09951-00370. Remove the disc brake dust cover front LH by removing its 3 bolts before using Special Service Tool: 09223-15020, 09950-60020 (09951-00720), 09950-70010 (09951-07100, 09387-02010) and a press to take out the front wheel hub LH bearing. To install the front wheel hub LH bearing along with the disc brake dust cover front LH, use the same tools while tightening the hardware to 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.). Install the front wheel hub sub-assembly LH using Special Service Tool: 09608-32010, 09950-60010 (09951-00600), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) together with a press followed by installation of the front wheel hub LH hole snap ring with snap ring pliers. The installation process begins with placing the lower ball joint assembly front LH while tightening its nut to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Complete the installation with a new cotter pin that must fit properly between the holes. The front wheel assembly LH must be installed by connecting the drive shaft assembly LH with the steering knuckle through the shock absorber using two bolts and two nuts and torque to 240 Nm (2,447 kgf-cm, 177 ft. lbs.) with engine oil on screw parts if reusing bolts and nuts. After installing the lower front suspension arm sub-assembly No.1 LH the front stabilizer link assembly LH and tie rod end sub-assembly LH it is necessary to install the front disc brake caliper assembly LH and front disc LH while torquing the caliper bolts to 107 Nm (1,090 kgf-cm, 79 ft. lbs.). The socket wrench (30 mm) allows users to install the front wheel hub LH nut at 216 Nm (2,200 kgf-cm, 159 ft. lbs.) torque before hammer-staking it with a chisel. In the final steps you should install the front wheel before torqueing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) You must also inspect the front wheel alignment followed by checking the ABS speed sensor signal.
