The intelligent tester requires the 17-digit alphanumeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for entering the VIN into the new Engine Control Module (ECM). The intelligent tester allows entry through its UP, DOWN, RIGHT and LEFT arrow buttons together with the 0 to 9 number buttons. Operate the tester cursor across the screen through RIGHT and LEFT buttons to make choices while UP and DOWN keys activate alphabetical letters and each numeric character needs its matching button press but you may choose UP or DOWN for selection. Rephrase the character selection by placing your cursor over it through RIGHT or LEFT button use. The user must check that the VIN matches the vehicle and then hit ENTER after finishing input. The VIN stored in the ECM can be read by connecting an intelligent tester to the DLC3 then turning the ignition switch ON and powering on the tester before accessing the menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / VIN. You must initiate the same ignition process to connect the intelligent tester which will perform the VIN writing task provided that the ECM VIN content corresponds with the actual vehicle VIN.

Verify that the entered VIN matches the vehicle's VIN, then press the ENTER button.

Secure the ECM with the 2 bolts, ensuring a torque of 3.0 N.m (31 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf).
