    Reset MEMORY procedures for the Engine Control Module (ECM) require using a Hand-held tester because this tool is the only authorized method to execute the operation. The Engine Control Module needs reset memory storage since it will learn the new assembly configurations from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) retained settings of the automatic transaxle and engine assemblies. Start the memory reset through standard procedures that include shutting off the ignition then plugging in the hand-held tool to DLC3. Activate the ignition switch to ON while turning on the main switch of the hand-held tester. You should choose "DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II" then use the ENGINE menu to run the reset memory procedure. A proper ROAD TEST has to be conducted after RESET MEMORY completion to validate the ECM's learning of new settings.
