The first step to replace or remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) for the 1ZZ-FE engine control system is disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The glove compartment door assembly requires removal by taking out screw [A] from the door stoppers [B] before deforming the upper assembly part to release stoppers [B] for pulling the assembly upward. Detach the ECM by employing a clip remover on the 2 clips followed by opening the cover then disconnecting the 4 ECM connectors [B] before extracting the wire harness from the wire harness clamp [C] and unscrewing the 2 screws [D]. The uninstall process of the ECM begins with unfastening the claw while simultaneously removing the clip. Proceed to remove the ECM cover at this time. Precisely remove ECM bracket No. 1 using the 4 screws from the DELCO made units. The installation of DENSO ECM requires users to begin with the removal of ECM bracket No. 1 by unfastening two screws followed by removing ECM bracket No. 2 by detaching two more screws before uninstalling ECM bracket No. 3 through another set of two screws.

Place a new ECM cover onto the ECM as illustrated.

Reinstall the glove compartment door assembly and connect the battery negative terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf).
