Vapor Canister

The process of Evaporative Emission Control Canister removal starts with disconnecting the negative battery cable followed by a minimum 90-second wait before servicing SRS components. The retainer can be pried up using a screwdriver yet leaves it in place to disconnect the two tubes and hose and connector. The technician should disconnect the purge line hose followed by the air inlet line tube from the canister (leak detection pump) and then disconnect the canister from its connector and finally remove the vent line tube from the canister. The fuel tube connector demands thorough cleaning from foreign debris and users should avoid letting either scratches or foreign matters affect any part during disassembly because this connector features an O-ring to seal the fuel pipe. Use your hands only to unplug all components and never use tools during the process and avoid forcing any movement of the nylon tube. The disconnected segment of the vent line tube should get covered with a plastic bag to provide protection. The stuck fuel tube connector and pipe can be unfastened through pushing and pulling motions. The four bolts together with the clip and canister need to be removed next.

Ensure that any dirt or foreign objects are removed from the fuel tube connector.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
