The first step for installing the back door stay assembly includes touching the piston rod only when necessary to avoid attaching foreign materials and wearing cotton gloves or similar materials since fabric can trigger gas leaks. Resistance should not be applied to the door stay rod along its horizontal direction to limit the damage it sustains. The threaded vehicle body surface needs cleaning with a non-residue solvent followed by installation of Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324 or Three Bond 1324 or equal-adhesive material onto the bolts' threaded section. Use the 4 bolts to attach the back door stay assembly to its place while torquing bolts to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf). Hand support of the back door is necessary during installation and a thorough examination should confirm the ball joint's secure fit which should not allow the door stay assembly to be pulled away.

Begin the back door stay assembly installation by using a non-residue solvent to clean the threaded vehicle body surface. Tabbed threads of the 4 bolts should receive Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324 or Three Bond 1324 or an equivalent adhesive beforehand. Install the 4 bolts of the back door stay assembly by tightening them to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf) of torque while maintaining support of the back door with your hand. Hand support of the back door should occur during the installation process. Examine whether the back door stay assembly locks within the ball joint so it cannot be removed. Touching the piston rod should be avoided to stop foreign elements from affixing and wearing cotton gloves or similar materials will stop fibers from triggering gas leaks and all horizontal forces on the door stay must be prevented to stop rod deformation.

Its location will change if the back window stay assembly is removed.

Release the ball joint and remove the back window stay assembly while supporting the back door by hand.
