The first step to remove the back door support involves using a taped screwdriver to unfasten both stop rings and the stay but avoid touching the rod directly because glove contact may create adhering fibers that reduce movement efficiency and overall holding strength; hand-support the back door during this procedure. The operator will need to remove the back door damper stay upper bracket by removing two bolts and subsequently remove the back door damper stay lower bracket by taking out its two bolts. The same methodology should be applied to both sides after completing the procedure on the LH side.

Begin installation of the back door damper stay lower bracket by using Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324, or their equivalent to coat the bolt threads on the vehicle body's threaded portion after cleaning it with a non-residue solvent. Secure the bracket by using bolts that reach a torque level of 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf). After cleaning the vehicle body threads you should apply adhesive to the 2 bolts for the back door damper stay upper bracket threads before installation with a torque of 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf). The service on back door stay assembly requires holding cylinders securely when they need work and avoids rod stroke contact and uses cotton-free gloves because fabric fibers may leak gas. Horizontal loading of the cylinders should be avoided to protect their shape from damage. Establish the stop ring over the back door stay assembly before you support the door by hand and install the back door stay assembly on its correct position.

Install the bracket with the 2 bolts, ensuring a torque of 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf).

Avoid touching the stroke portions of the rod, do not wear cotton gloves or similar materials, and refrain from applying any horizontal load to the cylinders.
