The first step to remove the heated oxygen sensor for a 1NZ-FE emission control system is to disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. During Sedan models maintenance disconnect two instrument panels: the lower center finish panel and end LH finish panel. Vehicle owners must first take off the shift lever knob sub-assembly if they have manual transaxle yet Hatchback manual transaxle owners should disassemble the shifting hole cover sub-assembly. To access the heated oxygen sensor No. 2 you must first remove the Sedan upper console panel sub-assembly and then proceed to take off the Hatchback console box rear cover followed by the Sedan console upper rear panel sub-assembly. You should start by taking out the console box carpet and the rear console box assembly. The instrument pad lower LH needs to be taken away from Sedan models. Begin by separate the sensor connector then remove its grommet before passing the connector out of the cabin through the floor panel. Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 should be used for removing heated oxygen sensor No. 2.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) and check for exhaust gas leakage.

Reconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and clamp.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
