A necessary initialization step must be performed to the occupant detection ECU after a collision for any of these conditions: electronic control unit replacement, accessory installation or removal of the passenger seat, passenger Air Bag ON/OFF indicator activation on passenger seat unoccupancy or post-accident vehicle repairs. A diagnostic system check should be performed first on the horn button assembly while a visual inspection must detect any cuts or cracks or discoloration in the assembly for which replacement is necessary. A thorough inspection of the horn button assembly must be done on any vehicle from a collision that did not activate its Air Bags. You should identify any potential defects within the horn button assembly and ensure its proper placement regarding the steering wheel assembly. Preform a diagnostic check and visual inspection of the instr pnl pass l/door Air Bag assembly for damage which requires replacement in case of defects. Replacement of components becomes necessary when damage is detected across the front seat Air Bag assembly as well as other assemblies and sensors including curtain shield Air Bag assembly, Air Bag sensor assembly center, Air Bag sensor front, side Air Bag sensor assembly, Air Bag sensor rear, seat position Air Bag sensor, and occupant classification ECU. Testing also serves to check both the wire harness and connectors for any breaks or damage. You should check the passenger Air Bag ON/OFF indicator while the ignition is set to the ON position to observe its activity.

It is crucial to prevent unexpected deployment during servicing, which could lead to serious accidents.

Always use a piece of paper that is the same thickness as the male terminal.

Replace any deployed airbags and check installation conditions.

Wait at least 90 seconds after turning the ignition switch to the LOCK position and disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
