A necessary initialization must be completed on the occupant classification ECU in specific cases including after the ECU gets replaced and when accessories go in or the passenger seat needs reinstallation or exchange or when the unoccupied passenger Air Bag ON/OFF indicator lights up "OFF" or when vehicles arrive at a repair shop following an accident. A diagnostic system check must be conducted before inspecting the horn button assembly for cuts cracks or discolorations; replace the assembly if defects exist. A check and replacement of the horn button assembly must be performed after vehicle collisions that resulted in failed Air Bag deployment either due to defects or steering wheel assembly restrictions. A diagnostic system check and visual inspection for defects should be performed on the instrument panel passenger Air Bag assembly. The assembly or instrument panel requires replacement in case of defects are detected. To replace any faulty component you must perform the same inspection process starting from the front seat Air Bag assembly through curtain shield Air Bag assembly, Air Bag sensor assembly center, Air Bag sensor front, side Air Bag sensor assembly, ending with Air Bag sensor rear. Both seat position Air Bag sensors and occupant classification ECUs need to be checked for damage before making necessary replacements. Check the wire harness along with its connectors for potential damage or breaks during the inspection process. For particular removal and installation tasks the use of Special Service Tool: 999-9999 is necessary.
