The Thermostat is an essential part of Toyota Celica car cooling system most preferably positioned at the vicinity of the radiator. A major use of the car radiator is to control the temperature of the car's engine for efficiency. Thermostats are feedback systems with which the temperature level is preserved and managed in a closed circuit for the circulation of heat transfer fluids. In automotive applications for example bimetallic strips and wax pellets are normally employed; wax pellet thermostats change in size by the effect of heat. These mechanisms are useful in maintaining temperatures hence improving comfort as well as performance in the Toyota Celica cars.

Toyota Celica Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair a thermostat on Toyota Celica?
    A:
Before servicing or repairing the thermostat the engine coolant drainage and Drive Belt and generator detachment are required. The water inlet must be disconnected from the cylinder block by removing its 2 nuts to extract the thermostat and its gasket. The thermostat can be tested by putting it in water while increasing heat as the valve opening temperature should fall between 80.0 - 84.0 degrees Celsius (176 - 183 degrees Fahrenheit). A non-compliant thermometer will need replacement. Checking the valve lift is essential for the thermostat since it should open to at least 10 mm at 90 degrees Celsius. If the valve lift is below specification, the thermostat needs replacement. A malfunctioning thermostat requires replacement whenever the valve remains open below 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Installation requires placement of the thermostat in the cylinder block with a new gasket while setting the jiggle valve upward at any location from 10 degrees of its recommended positioning. The water inlet installation requires 2 nuts which must be torqed to 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) before reinstalling generator along with drive belt. The installation process ends with adding engine coolant into the system while starting the engine to check for Radiator leaks in the coolant.
