The first step to service a Transmission Position Switch/Sensor requires air cleaner assembly removal. Begin by disconnecting the park/neutral position switch connector before you remove the switch by taking out the nut and then the nut and washer and control shift lever. First use a screwdriver to separate the lock plate before removing the nut and lock plate apart from using the screwdriver to extract the two bolts to remove the park/neutral position switch. The procedure for park/neutral position switch installation requires its two bolts to have 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) torque and a new lock plate and nut to receive 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.) torque before you bend the lock plate claws to fasten the nut securely. The control shift lever needs to be reinstalled with a nut that must be torqued to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Next the shift control cable requires installation onto the control shaft using 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque. Use a multimeter to check that the shift starts the engine in N and P positions only; perform the adjustment if the system fails this check. Then reattach the park/neutral position switch. The air cleaner assembly needs reinstalling before conducting a test drive of the vehicle.
