Scion tC Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch on Scion tC?
A: The Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch service procedure requires one to drain the engine coolant then disconnect the negative battery cable for a minimum of 90 seconds to avoid triggering Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. Take out the engine coolant temperature sensor together with its gasket using Special Service Tool: 09817-33190 after disconnecting its connector. After sensor installation a new gasket should be applied to the sensor which needs to be mounted using tool: 09817-33190 to achieve 19.6 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) torque. To complete the battery service, connect the sensor connector while reconnecting the cable back to the negative battery terminal. Then fill in engine coolant before checking for any leakage. Finally, perform initialization on affected systems that need initialization after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
