How to replace the Liftgate Lift Support on a hatchback on 2010 Toyota Yaris?

Initial removal of the back door support for hatchback begins through the use of protective tape-wrapped screwdriver to extract the 2 stop rings and the stay. Lifting the support rod with gloves is not recommended because the contact will create surface fibers that may interfere with smooth movement and decreased holding strength. Stable support of the back door should be maintained with hand contact while performing this procedure. Both the RH and LH sides require this procedure yet the instructions presented here cover the LH side.
