2010 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Rack And Pinion on 2010 Scion tC?
A: The process to remove and replace the rack and pinion starts with front wheel alignment to the straight ahead position followed by draining the power steering fluid. Start by removing the column hole cover silencer sheet followed by disconnecting the No. 2 rack and pinion intermediate shaft assembly by fixing the steering wheel with a seat belt to stop rotation while marking the No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly and intermediate shaft. Then remove the bolt to disconnect the assembly. Begin by removing the front wheel followed by steering column hole sub-assembly No. 1 and engine under covers from both left and right areas. Both tie rod end sub-assemblies must be separated before disconnecting the pressure feed tube with Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 and removing front stabilizer link assemblies from both sides. Both front No. 1 suspension arm sub-assemblies must be separated from both sides of the vehicle and the front floor panel brace and center exhaust pipe assembly must be removed. The engineer should first suspend the engine assembly before removing the hood sub-assembly and the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly. After unbolt the two bolts fastening the No. 1 hook users should detach the four bolts securing the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly and separate the center member while disconnecting the engine mounting insulator rear from the crossmember. Users must support the crossmember with a transmission jack then remove both left and right side bolts and brackets. As the final step remove the No. 1 rack and pinion column hole cover sub-assembly and detach both the rack and pinion intermediate shaft by marking its position alongside the pinion shaft and the power steering link assembly by unbolt its 4 nuts and 4 bolts without turning the nuts during bolt loosening.
