2010 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the oil filter on 2010 Scion tC?
A: Proceed with oil filter replacement of a 2AZ-FE engine by first taking off the right-hand engine under cover. The procedure begins with draining engine oil through removal of the oil filler cap and oil drain plug to collect the oil in a container. Following cleaning of the drain plug you must reinstall it with a new gasket while torquing it to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). The first step is to take out the oil filter sub-assembly using Special Service Tool: 09228-06501. A proper installation process requires users to clean the mounting area and apply new filter oil onto the filter gasket before hand-tightening it until it touches the seat. Use Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 to tighten the oil filter according to the specified torque of 17.2 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) but space permitting also focus on tightening it by 3/4 hand turns with a regular wrench. Place clean engine oil into the service opening and return the oil filler cap followed by checking that the total engine oil capacity is present. Before reattaching the engine under cover on the right-hand side complete warming up the engine to guarantee no oil leaks exist.
