2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Starter Motor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to disassemble the starter motor on 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The starter motor disassembly process begins with disconnecting the lead wire after removing its nut before removing the 2 switch nuts to detach the switch. Use a T30 "TORX" socket wrench on the two bolts securing the starter drive housing assembly until it is loose enough for you to extract the yoke and starter commutator end frame with the armature. It is necessary to remove the starter pinion drive lever and the two screws from the starter commutator end frame assembly while keeping the lead wire stationary. The starter armature assembly removal starts with using a screwdriver to keep the spring back which disconnects the brush from the brush holder before you can disconnect the 4 brushes and take out the starter armature from the yoke. After detaching the starter yoke assembly from its position on the starter center bearing clutch, proceed to disassemble the starter armature plate from the same clutch. Finally, remove the 3 planetary gears.
