2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the camshaft and related components on 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: A proper installation of the camshaft requires engine oil application to all contact surfaces including journals, housings, bearing caps before correctly placing No. 1 then No. 2 camshafts within the housing. Mount the specified ten bolts temporarily following the provided order. The valve rocker arms must be installed correctly and Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black or Three Bond 1207B or equivalent must be applied in one continuous line while cleaning the contact surface free from oil. Apply seal padding to the parts before installing the camshaft housing within three minutes. Tighten all bolts during the following fifteen minutes using 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf) torque for bolt A while the others require 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf). Finish by torquing the ten bolts to 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf) following the specified bolt order. For the camshaft bearing cap LH with the No. 3 and No. 4 camshafts use the same precautions during installation followed by torquing at the specified values. The installation process requires at least two hours without starting the engine and you should verify the camshaft knock pin has its proper position before putting on the camshaft housing. Proceed with the installation of the crankshaft timing gear key, set No. 1 cylinder to TDC/compression, and install the No. 2 chain tensioner assembly, followed by the No. 1 chain sub-assembly RH, No. 1 chain vibration damper RH, No. 1 chain tensioner slipper RH, No. 1 chain tensioner assembly RH, No. 3 chain tensioner assembly, No. 1 chain sub-assembly LH, No. 1 chain tensioner slipper LH, No. 1 chain tensioner assembly LH, and No. 1 chain vibration damper LH, ensuring all components are installed correctly. The installation process continues with camshaft timing gear assembly tightening while verifying No. 1 cylinder position at TDC/compression and includes water inlet pipe and timing chain cover sub-assembly installation along with spark plug tube gasket and cylinder head cover sub-assemblies LH and RH, ignition coil assembly, crankshaft pulley and additional components which must be installed securely without leakage. Finish the process by hooking up the negative battery terminal while monitoring oil and coolant leaks and checking engine oil level and ignition timing and engine idle speed before installing front fender apron seals and engine under covers together with splash shields and other exterior pieces to ensure proper functioning and right security.
