2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the clutch master cylinder assembly on 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Begin the installation of the clutch master cylinder assembly by fastening it with 2 bolts which should be torqued at 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 8.9 ft-lbf). The installation of the push rod clevis requires applying MP grease to the pin before using it to fasten the clevis through the pin and clip. Install the clutch start switch with its nut and torque this connection to 16 Nm (160 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf). Install the clutch master cylinder onto the 2-way tube through a union nut wrench while tightening it to 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm) or 15 Nm (154 kgf-cm) without the wrench. Torque wrenches need to have 300 mm (11.8 in.) and a union nut wrench needs 22 mm (0.886 in.) for parallel positioning and should see 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque values. Install the clutch reservoir tube into its proper position. The clutch pedal installation requires attachment to the clutch master cylinder using two nuts and a bolt which need torque at 14 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) for the nut but 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) for the bolt. Next, connect the clutch switch connector and the clutch start switch connector. The installation order includes driver side junction block followed by instrument panel lower LH, lower LH instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly, No. 1 instrument panel register assembly, cowl side trim board LH, front door scuff plate LH and front floor footrest. Install the clutch master cylinder to its flexible hose tube through use of the Special Service Tool while maintaining the previously specified torque values. Connect the clutch reservoir tube before following the step of bleeding the clutch pipe line and inspecting and adjusting the clutch pedal. Also conduct checks for clutch fluid leakage and inspect the reservoir fluid level.
