- Q: How to install the parking brake cable assembly and related components on 2008 Toyota Corolla?A: The installation process for parking brake cable assembly No. 3 begins with attaching it to the equalizer and fastening it with 4 bolts that use a cable retainer and torque to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Finally, fix the skid control sensor wire harness clip onto the clamp. Secure the five nuts on the Fuel Tank Protector No. 1 before torquing it to 5.5 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). The parking brake cable assembly No. 1 connects to the terminated end of the equalizer. Begin with installment of front floor heat insulator No. 2 through combination of 2 nuts which requires a torque setting of 5.5 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) before proceeding with front floor heat insulator No. 1 while using 3 nuts together with 5.5 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) torque. Screw the backing plate end of parking brake cable assembly No. 3 with a bolt whose torque value reaches 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 in-lbf). High-temperature grease application precedes the installation of TMC Made components consisting of parking brake shoe lever LH and rear brake shoe with its return spring and automatic adjust lever LH alongside parking brake shoe strut set LH. The installation of front brake shoes along with another parking brake shoe strut set LH for TMMC Made must be followed by checking the rear drum brake. The installation of the rear brake drum sub-assembly for TMC Made requires adjustment of the rear drum brake shoe clearance. The installation process requires applying high-temperature grease again to TMMC Made components followed by installation of the rear brake shoe lever sub-assembly, rear brake shoe, parking brake shoe strut set LH and front brake shoe and rear brake automatic adjust lever LH all made by TMMC. The technician must check rear drum brake installation then put on the rear brake drum sub-assembly for TMMC Made while adjusting the rear drum brake shoe clearance when needed. End the installation process by inserting the rear wheel and torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) before checking the parking brake lever operation and correcting the travel if necessary while also performing an exhaust gas leak inspection.
