2008 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the brake master cylinder on 2008 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Installation of the brake master cylinder starts by applying a new brake booster gasket onto the master cylinder. The hydraulic brake booster assembly needs to be mounted with 4 nuts at 14 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf). The installation requires connecting four brake lines to their designated positions on the hydraulic brake booster assembly while using a union nut wrench to apply 16 Nm (158 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque without the wrench or 14 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque with it. Ensure that the torque wrench measures 300 mm (11.8 in.) and that the union nut wrench alignment is parallel to the torque wrench. Attach the 3 connectors to their respective places on the hydraulic brake booster assembly. Start installation of the clip together with push rod pin to the clevis before placing the steering column hole cover then the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower while installing the instrument panel finish plate followed by the cowl side trim board LH, front floor footrest and front door scuff plate LH. As a next step, attach the cable to the negative side of the battery while adding brake fluid into the reservoir. The process involves bleeding the brake booster with accumulator pump assembly along with bleeding the brake line before moving onto the master cylinder solenoid. Check the brake pedal height and free play followed by checking pedal reserve distance then level the reservoir and look for fluid leaks and inspect brake master cylinder operation.
