2008 Toyota 4Runner Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to reassemble the brake master cylinder on 2008 Toyota 4Runner?
A: A new brake master cylinder piston must be lubricated with lithium soap base glycol grease for installation with 2 screwdrivers to set a new snap C-ring that needs pressure while positioning the piston. Proceed with installing the master cylinder boot along with the master cylinder push rod clevis by properly torquing both the brake master cylinder side lock nut and rod operating adapter to 26 Nm (260 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf). Secure a new master cylinder solenoid gasket to clean surfaces before attaching 6 new bolts that should be torqued to 32 Nm (326 kgf-cm, 24 ft-lbf). The brake booster accumulator installation procedure starts by fitting the accumulator components along with a new O-ring and completion of torquing to 57 Nm (585 kgf-cm, 42 ft-lbf). Install two bolts with hexagon wrenches (5 mm) on the brake booster pump bracket No. 2 before tightening them to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 in-lbf). After that, fasten the brake master cylinder with a bolt contained in bracket No. 3 and torque its bolt to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 in-lbf). The installation requires a hexagon wrench (4 mm) for two brake master cylinder pins followed by brake booster pump collars and bushes assembly after which the master cylinder receives the assembly and new clip before wire harness screw installation with 2.9 Nm (30 kgf-cm, 26 in-lbf) torque and new plug completion. Install the brake actuator tube No. 1 using a union nut wrench to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque but reduce it to 14 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) using the wrench while maintaining its parallel alignment. The brake actuator hose needs needle nose pliers for installation followed by hooking two clips while you apply lithium soap base glycol grease to three new reservoir grommets before their placement in the brake master cylinder. Keep the sizes in mind when doing this work. The brake master cylinder reservoir sub-assembly must be installed with its screw tightened to 1.7 Nm (17 kgf-cm, 15 in-lbf) followed by a new pin inserted using a pin punch hitting with a hammer on the reservoir sub-assembly. Secure the brake fluid level warning switch connector by bolting it to the brake master cylinder while applying 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 in-lbf) torque for attachment to the brake actuator bracket No. 1.
