2008 Toyota 4Runner Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2008 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Service and repair operations on the brake master cylinder start with disconnecting the negative battery cable while leaving it unreconnected for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The removal of brake fluid should include proper washing of any paint surfaces that had fluid contact. The service starts by taking out the front door scuff plate LH and front floor footrest followed by the cowl side trim board LH and instrument panel finish plate and lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly and steering column hole cover. The push rod pin needs removal through the process of taking out the clip and the pin from the clevis. Use tags or create a memo before disconnecting three connectors from the hydraulic brake booster assembly. The hydraulic brake booster assembly removal involves first severing the 4 brake lines with a union nut wrench followed by removing 4 nuts and removing the assembly completely. After removing the brake master cylinder gasket replace its indicated parts by coating them with lithium soap base glycol grease and exercise caution to prevent deforming brake actuator tube No. 1 during high-pressure installation. Start the work only after depressurizing the brake pedal 20 times while leaving the ignition switch in off position.
