  • Q: How to remove the Blend Door Actuator on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The Air Inlet Control Servo Motor requires the front wheels to be straight-faced position before battery terminal cable disconnection occurs for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag initiation. The system needs refrigerant recovery during which technicians must separate the suction pipe sub-assembly from the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly and the heater outlet water hose and heater inlet water hose. Remove the front door opening trim Weather Strip RH and LH, front pillar garnish RH and LH, instrument cluster finish center panel sub-assembly, instrument cluster finish lower panel, instrument cluster finish panel assembly, combination meter assembly, glove compartment door assembly, upper instrument panel sub-assembly, front door scuff plates RH and LH, cowl side trim boards RH and LH, shift lever knob sub-assembly (for Manual Transaxle), instrument cluster finish center lower panel, front console box inserts (No. 1 and No. 2), instrument panel finish lower panel, and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly and remove the shift lever assembly for both Manual and Automatic Transaxles. The technician shall disconnect the air mix damper control cable sub-assembly and No. 2 heater control cable sub-assembly from the air conditioning panel assembly and separate all the mentioned components. These components include the No. 1 switch hole base, instrument panel finish lower panel sub-assembly and instrument panel sub reinforcement. The technician must remove the radio bracket and No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel seal before working on separate hood lock control lever sub-assembly and antenna cord sub-assembly and the lower instrument panel sub-assembly. To disassemble the column system begin by removing the steering pad followed by the steering wheel assembly after which remove the steering column cover then extract the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly before separating the column hole cover silencer sheet to end with the removal of the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. Both Manual and Automatic Transaxles require complete removal of the rear No. 3 and No. 1 air ducts with lower defroster nozzle assembly as well as center instrument panel to cowl brace alongside the removal of separate relay block assembly and instrument panel brace sub-assembly and power steering ECU assembly. Drain cooler hose needs to disconnect along with separating the instrument panel wire before removing the instrument panel reinforcement assembly. Take away the air conditioning unit and then remove the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly and blower assembly and disconnect the 2 screws to extract the air inlet control servo motor.
