2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the wiper linkage on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: You start front wiper motor services by taking off the wiper head cap before using two nuts to unfasten the LH wiper arm and just one nut to take off the RH wiper arm. Take off the 8 clips from the hood one by one to remove the hood to cowl top seal, then detach the 8 claws and clip to remove the cowl top ventilator louver on the left side and repeat on the right. Unplug the connector and detach 5 bolts to extract the windshield wiper motor and link module unit. Use a flat-head screwdriver to disengage the windshield wiper link arm from the crank arm pivot but first tape up the screwdriver tip. Then unscrew the nut and washer before taking out the crank arm while keeping marks of original positions for reinstalling. Simple steps to remove windshield wiper motor include taking out its three holding bolts. Mount the windshield wiper motor to the link with three bolts applying 5.4 N.m torque when tight (55 kgf.cm or 48 in.lbf). Next, insert the crank arm with washer and nut making sure matchmarks are aligned and torquing to 17 N.m (13 ft.lbf, 175 kgf.cm). Fit MP grease to both ends of the crank arm pivot and secure the windshield wiper link arm in place. Put the windshield wiper assembly pieces together with 5 bolts while tightening them to 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf). Afterward, connect its connector again. First wash the serration of the left-hand wiper arm and pivot area before fitting it to the nut. Align the blade properly before tightening the nut to 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Reposition the wiper arm on the right side front with both nuts while verifying the wipers move freely without clashes. The 8 clips help install the hood onto the cowl top seal through the 8 claws before attaching each cowl top ventilator louver into its clips. Complete the process by connecting the cable to the battery negative terminal and starting system initialization because some equipment needs this step when the battery is reconnected.
