2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the axle shaft assembly on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: Use a 10 mm socket to drain the transaxle oil and remove the plug using a new gasket afterward. Torque the plug to 39 Nm using 400 kgf-cm or 29 ft. lbs. spiel the front hub nut using SST 09930-00010 and a heavy blow. Then loosen the nut with a 30 mm socket torque wrench to remove the components. Detach the front speed sensor LH by first removing its wire and bolt then extracting the component from the steering knuckle while keeping the area clean. To separate the tie rod end sub-assembly LH apply SST 09628-00011 to disconnect it from the steering knuckle by removing the clip and castle nut to avoid damaging nearby parts. To separate the lower front ball joint of the No. 1 front suspension arm sub-assembly we must disconnect the two nuts and bolt then gently move the arm downward. Tap the end of the front drive shaft gently with a plastic-headed hammer to release it before you push the front axle assembly LH outward this way you will prevent damage to parts. Lower the front fender apron seal to remove the front drive shaft assembly LH using tool numbers 09520-01010 and 09520-32040 (09520-24010). Beware of damaging the oil seal and boot. Rephrase both front drive shaft assembly removal steps in the same way. Support the front axle assembly LH with SST 09608-16042 parts when needed to protect the hub bearing from damage. Verify the LH front drive shaft unit for possible movement issues and other mechanical damage. To separate the parts use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the No. 2 front axle inboard joint boot clamp on the left side then slide off the boot before removing the front drive inboard joint assembly from its LH position. Keep track of joint connections to minimize potential harm. Put in new components according to instructions and use the specified lubrication while making sure the clamps have enough space between them when fastened with SST 09521-24010 and SST 09240-00020. Insert the front drive shaft dust cover LH using tool 09527-10011 before fitting the outboard joint boot and clamps while avoiding grease application in the grooves. Put the front drive shaft assembly LH into place by applying ATF to the splines then lining it up and tightening the front axle assembly LH. Afterward thread the suspension arm, tie rod end, speed sensor, hub nut and front wheel into position then double-check the specified torque values. Lastly add transaxle oil while inspecting the system.
