2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Shift Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Shift Cable on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The transmission control cable requires service or repair which first involves uninstalling three components: the parking brake hole cover sub-assembly together with the console upper rear panel sub-assembly and the front console box. You can start the transmission control cable removal by disconnecting it from the shift lever after lock clip elimination followed by separating the body attachment with 2 nuts. End the control cable disconnect operation by removing the 2 nuts and the nut and clip at the end of the process. The control cable needs to first be connected to the transmission using an installation torque value of 14 N m (143 kgf cm, 10 ft. lbf) while using a new clip before attaching it to the body using 2 nuts torqued at 5.5 N m (56 kgf cm, 49 in. lbf). Secure the control cable with all 3 claws before attaching the 2 nuts to the body at the specified torque value before installing the new lock clip. Finish the task by adding back the front console box along with installing the console upper rear panel sub-assembly and the parking brake hole cover sub-assembly.
