2007 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The first step for PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH services includes removing both the NO.1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY and the REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY. Separate the connector of the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH and remove the assembly by unlocking the lock washer followed by nut removal before removing the bolt and switch together. You must jack up the vehicle and detach the switch connector before performing a resistance test on each shift lever position according to the given specifications. Activation of the engine to start in only N or P positions requires first using the parking brake and turning the ignition switch ON then depressing the brake pedal. The Back Up light and reverse warning buzzer should activate only in R position. Check the park/neutral position switch for electrical continuity when failure detection occurs. The adjustment process starts by loosening the bolt followed by shifting the lever to position N. Afterwards, position the switch groove directly under the neutral basic line then secure the switch by tightening the bolt to 13 Nm (130 kgf/cm, 10ft.lbs.). The installation of the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY requires securing it with the bolt at the same torque followed by adding a new lock washer with nut at 6.9 Nm (70 kgf/cm, 61 in. lbs.) and cloaking the nut through lock washer claw deformation. As the last step install the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR and return the vehicle under cover assemblies in order along with the NO.1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY followed by a complete evaluation of the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY.
