2006 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2006 Toyota RAV4?
A: The starter motor repair process starts with negative battery terminal cable removal then waiting ninety seconds before removing the positive battery terminal cable. The battery clamp removal process starts with loosening the nut to remove the bolt and releasing the clamps from both wire harnesses before extracting the clamp from its position in front of the battery bracket. The front battery bracket removal process begins by removing battery insulator and battery while to detach the two wire harness clamps and remove four bolts from the front battery bracket. You must remove the battery bracket reinforcement through the elimination of two bolts. To access the starter assembly, disconnect the starter connector, open the terminal cap and take out the nut followed by starter wire disconnection before you remove the 2 bolts securing the starter. First install the starter assembly with two bolts tightened to 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf), then connect the starter connector, screw in the terminal nut while covering the cap with torques of 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Begin by installing the battery bracket reinforcement then proceed to add the front battery bracket using its 4 bolts while maintaining 19 N.m torque (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) for all bolts. Afterward, connect the two wire harness clamps. Start by mounting the battery and battery insulator and then hook the clamp to the battery bracket front and tighten the nut temporarily before installing the bolt to adjust the clamp position while tightening the nut and bolt to 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf). Complete the installation with the attachment of 2 wire harness clamps. The cable should be attached first to the positive terminal of the battery before being connected to the negative terminal.
