2006 Toyota Corolla Engine Control Module Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: One should start the ECM replacement process by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The glove compartment door assembly needs removal by unscrewing the stoppers' screws followed by stretching the upper part to free them before lifting the assembly vertically. The first step begins with a clip remover to separate the 2 clips from the ECM. Then follow by opening the cover and disconnecting the 4 ECM connectors before removing the wire harness from the clamp and unscrewing the 2 screws. Finally take out the ECM by unfastening the claw and clip. The first step is to remove the ECM cover before proceeding to detach the ECM brackets where you need to remove 4 screws from the Delco made bracket while using 2 screws each for brackets No. 2 and No. 3 on the Denso made brackets. The installation procedure requires first screwing ECM bracket Number 3 with two screws to a 3.2 Nm torque followed by ECM bracket Number 2 with two screws twisted to a 3.2 Nm torque before securing the Denso produced ECM bracket with two screws attaining a 3.2 Nm torque and lastly securing the Delco produced ECM bracket with four screws tightened to a 3.2 Nm torque. Place the ECM cover on the ECM before fastening it with 2 screws (3.0 Nm Torque) and connecting all 4 ECM connectors. Next secure the wire harness clamp before putting back the cover clips. Install the glove compartment door assembly as you reconnect the battery negative terminal and use 5.4 Nm torque when tightening. The process ends by registering the VIN.
