2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel tank on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: Starting fuel tank maintenance requires gas leakage prevention and disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal. The fuel tank repair starts by removing the rear seat assembly along with the floor service hole cover and separating the fuel sub-assembly tube before removing the set plate of the vent tube. Disconnect the fuel suction tube assembly that contains the pump and gauge before draining out the fuel and taking away the exhaust pipe assembly center. The parking brake cable assemblies No.2 and No.3 require their set bolts and nuts to be removed for disconnecting purposes. Start the fuel tank protector lower center removal by undoing the 4 bolts before disconnecting the fuel pump tube without damaging its connection and using a transmission jack for extra support. Unwind the 2 set bolts that attach the fuel tank bands before gently disconnecting the hoses connecting the fuel tank to filler pipe and the fuel tank vent pipe from the charcoal canister by fully pushing the connector to release its locking pin. Start by detaching the fuel tank while removing its 2 pins and 2 fuel tank bands and finishing with the 4 clip nuts removal. First disconnect the fuel tank vent hose and fuel pump tube sub-assembly and fuel tank main tube support and then extract the fuel tank cushion No.2. Attaching 7 new fuel tank cushions starts the process before installing the fuel main tube support after tightening it to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). Install the fuel tank assembly by first tightening the 4 clip nuts then securing the 2 fuel tank bands with 2 pins and by attaching the fuel tank vent hose and fuel tank inlet pipe with the fuel filler pipe clamp before tightening the 2 set bolts of the fuel tank bands to 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf). Connect the fuel tube No.1 while making sure both connectors show no leakage. Secure the parking brake cables by installing the bolts linked to No.3 and No.2 and applying 6.0 N.m (61 kgf.cm, 53 in.lbf) then 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf). Next, install the fuel tank protector lower center with 5.4 N.m of torque (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). End the procedure by installing exhaust pipe assembly center and fuel suction tube assembly combined with pump and gauge before installing the fuel tank vent tube set plate and connecting the fuel pump tube sub-assembly. Add fuel to the system while reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal before checking for leaks then place the rear floor service hole cover and rear seat cushion assembly. System initializations must be performed after the battery terminal detachment.
