2005 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: The first task to replace the thermostat (1NZ-FXE) includes taking off the radiator support opening cover and then removing the engine under cover LH and RH. First remove the engine coolant before taking both water inlet nuts and the radiator outlet hose attached to the water inlet. Uninstall the device that controls engine temperature along with its sealing component. Set the thermostat jiggle valve upward before installing the new gasket while keeping the valve between 10 degrees angles of either direction. Use two nuts to install the water inlet with the radiator outlet hose after which torque them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.). The maintenance process includes engine coolant addition followed by leak inspections before reinstallation of the engine under cover RH, engine under cover LH, and radiator support opening cover.
