2005 Toyota Prius Control Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the FRONT CONTROL ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: You will start to change the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH by first putting the front wheels in a forward position and eliminating the column hole cover silencer sheet. Perform a first step to detach the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly before both front wheel removal alongside the exhaust pipe assembly front. Move on to the FRONT AXLE HUB LH NUT using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 before proceeding to the FRONT AXLE HUB RH NUT with the same system of procedures applied to the right side. Use Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 to separate the TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH before handling the same process for the RH side. The assembly of front stabilizer links needs separation from its mounting position at the front shock absorber coil spring by means of a 6 mm hexagon wrench if required. One should remove the bolt and two nuts on the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH then lower it from the front lower ball joint assembly. The technologist should repeat the procedure using the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 RH. Disconnect both FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY LH and RH followed by removing the FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH by using Special Service Tools 09520-01010 and 09520-24010 (09520-32040) and then the FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH. The FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY requires separation and the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH needs removing after loosening the two bolts and nut with the nut fixed against rotation. Use the two bolts and nut to temporarility fasten the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH to the suspension crossmember sub-assembly. The service tool 09670-00010 enables FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY installation followed by FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH and then RH installation. Proceed to install the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH which must hook up to the front lower ball joint assembly using the bolt and two nuts and torqued to 89 Nm (908 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.). Install and tighten the FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY using Special Service Tool 09670-00010 before fitting the FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH or the FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH. Complete installation by adding the FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY LH followed by the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH. Secure it with bolt and two nuts at 89 Nm (908 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.). Then move to the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 RH. The FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY installation process requires hooking it up to the front shock absorber with coil spring while torquing it to 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.), using a hexagon (6 mm) wrench for assistance. The installation process begins with the TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH and RH followed by installation of the FRONT AXLE HUB LH and RH NUTS then the exhaust pipe assembly front gets installed. After installing and torquing the front tire to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.), the suspension needs a stability check while the vehicle is jacked down to perform several bouncing tests. After positioning the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly the service technician installs the column hole cover silencer sheet. The installation process concludes with a 101 ft. lbs. (137 Nm) torquing of the two bolts on the FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 LH using a technique that prevents the nut from rotation on the rear side bolt followed by tire placement on the ground using a 4-pillar lifter before performing alignments on the front wheel.
