2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What precautions should be observed when servicing the fuel injector on 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Careful handling processes exist for fuel injector servicing which state that new O-rings must not be reused and installation should avoid damaging fresh O-rings and include pre-coating them with spindle oil or gasoline but excluding engine, gear, and brake fluids. The removal process starts with taking off the suspension upper brace followed by the No. 2 cylinder head cover until the PCV hose becomes detached and the three wire harness clamps can be disconnected. First disconnect the delivery pipe from the cylinder head by removing its two bolts and four injector connectors before carefully separating the delivery pipe with injectors keeping them from falling. Disassemble the assembly by taking off both spacers and four grommets before extracting and removing the four injectors with their individual O-rings. Install each injector by first coating its new O-ring with spindle oil or gasoline and then placing it on the injector before putting both spacers and four new insulators onto the cylinder head. The installation process requires light oil or gasoline application to the delivery pipe-O-ring junction before installing the four injectors by turning each injector toward the delivery pipes while ensuring their connectors point upward. Verify that the injectors rotate without obstacles before moving forward. Replacing the O-ring should be considered if the injectors do not turn smoothly after installing two temporary bolts onto the cylinder head. Secure the two cylinder head bolts to 19 N.m torque setting (190 kgf.cm and 13 ft.lbf) before connecting all four injector connectors. The three wire harness clamps along with the PCV hose need connection followed by No. 2 cylinder head cover installation and suspension upper brace reinstallation.
