2005 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2005 Toyota Echo?
A: The process of servicing and repairing the compressor and magnetic clutch starts by letting the engine idle at low speed with A/C activated for 10 minutes before stopping the engine to detach the negative battery cable. First drain the refrigerant out of the refrigeration system then remove the engine cover before disconnecting the drive belt and unbolting and disconnecting the suction and discharge hoses from the compressor. Instantly cap open fittings to avoid system entry of moisture or dirt. The compressor needs removal after disconnecting the connector together with the wire harness clamp and the four bolts securing it. The installation requires four bolt tightening to 25 N.m (250 kgf.cm, 18 ft.lbf force) while connecting the connector. The user should install the suction and discharge hoses on the compressor after applying compressor oil to 2 new O-rings and linking the hoses together before torquing the 2 bolts to 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). The hoses must remain connected instantly after removing the caps. The drive belt installation follows the engine under cover placement along with the system charge process that involves evacuating air and introducing 460 plus or minus 30 g (16.23 plus or minus 1.06 oz.) of refrigerant while checking for leakage. A gas leak detector should be used to detect refrigerant leakage followed by torque adjustment at the joints when leaks are detected to check A/C functionality.
