2005 Toyota Celica Throttle Body Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Throttle Body on 2005 Toyota Celica?
A: The service and repair procedure for the Throttle Body (1ZE-FE) begins with draining engine coolant first. First disconnect the accelerator cable before you detach the No. 2 cylinder head cover. The MAF meter installation requires disconnecting two air hoses from the air cleaner cap followed by loose clamp bolt disconnection and connector and clip removal of the VSV for EVAP and mass air flow meter. Detach the air cleaner hose from the throttle body before removing the air cleaner cap together with the hose. When removing the throttle body disconnect the throttle position sensor connector as well as the IAC valve connector and the PCV hose from the throttle body. The disconnection of the No. 2 water bypass pipe requires removing its two bolts and unclipping the two water bypass hoses. The throttle body can be separated from the intake manifold by removing its two bolts and two nuts followed by removing the throttle body gasket. The first step is to verify the throttle valve does not have any space between the throttle stop screw and throttle lever during the closed position while also inspecting the throttle position sensor by using an ohmmeter to check terminal resistance. Apply a new gasket onto the intake manifold before you connect the throttle body using its two bolts and two nuts while tightening them to 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Then install the two water bypass hoses before adding the two bolts to the No. 2 water bypass pipe. Reconnect the IAC valve connector with the throttle position sensor connector and PCV hose to the throttle body. Finish installation by placing the air cleaner hose and cap with MAF meter and installing the No. 2 cylinder head cover. Than reattach the air filter hose along with the MAF sensor then return the No. 2 cylinder head cap and complete the radiator with engine coolant.
