2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil filter sub-assembly while ensuring safety and proper procedure on 2005 Scion tC?
A: When changing the 2AZ-FE oil filter sub-assembly avoid continuous exposure to engine oil because it can irritate skin and include toxic substances. Protect your skin by wearing gloves along with protective clothing during this task and wash your skin right after handling the engine oil. The correct disposal area exists for used oil and filters. Demand the removal of RH engine under cover and empty out the engine oil through oil drain plug and oil filler cap while directing the fluid into a container. Install the oil drain plug after cleaning and using a new gasket while torquing it to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.). You need to eliminate the oil filter sub-assembly with Special Service Tool: 09228-06501. Clean the oil filter installation surface then apply engine oil to both sides of a new filter gasket. Finally screw and tighten the filter until it touches the filter seat. Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 should be used to tighten it by 3/4 turns at a reference torque of 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 9.5 ft. lbs.). Add fresh engine oil to the designated capacity while checking for leakage before putting back the engine under cover on the right-hand side.
