2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel tank assembly on 2005 Scion tC?
A: A proper service or repair of the fuel tank assembly requires users to start by disconnecting the battery negative terminal followed by removing the rear seat cushion assembly the rear floor service hole cover and the fuel suction with pump & gauge tube assembly. Drain the fuel then eliminate the floor panel brace front along with the exhaust pipe assembly center by removing four bolts combined with two compression springs and then dismount the gaskets. The service starts with removing fuel tank protector No.1 along with the charcoal canister assembly and both rear suspension brace lowers after unbolt each component by three. The fuel tank main tube requires removing through retainer tab pinching followed by pulling it out until the tube shows no debris or scratches. Cable the fuel tank breather tube then break its claw fitting while loosening the hose clamp bolt to disconnect the fuel tank to filler pipe hose. A transmission jack should be used to support the fuel tank as teams remove four bolts from it while taking off the two fuel tank bands and lastly removing the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly and fuel tank vent hose. The task starts by removing floor wire No.3 and tank suction tube support and continues with fuel tube clamps No.3 and No.4 removal until the last step of removing fuel tank cushion No.1. The team should begin by fitting 10 new fuel tank cushions No.1 and proceeding to install fuel tube clamp No.4 with 6.0 N.m (60 kgf.cm, 53 in.lbf) torque before adding fuel tube clamp No.3 along with the tank suction tube support. Secure all connections between the fuel tank vent hose and the main tube sub-assembly after reinstallation of floor wire No.3 and the fuel tank protector plate. Install the fuel tank onto the transmission jack and place it within the vehicle while tightening the 2 fuel tank bands No.1 using 4 bolts at 39.2 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf). Route and fix the fuel tank filler pipe hose while securing the clamp to ensure correct alignment. Check the secure connection of the fuel tank breather tube and main tube before proceeding. The installation of rear suspension brace lowers requires 63.5 N.m (645 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf) torque followed by charcoal canister assembly and fuel tank protector No.1 installation with 5 bolts applying 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) torque. Install the exhaust pipe assembly center by placing the gaskets properly and securely tightening it with two compression springs and four bolts at 43 N.m (440 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf). To complete the procedure one must add fuel, install the fuel suction assembly with pump and gauge tube, reconnect the battery negative terminal at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) torque while verifying no leakages occur before reinstalling the floor panel brace front and the rear floor service hole cover with the rear seat cushion assembly.
