The service begins by taking off three nuts and removing the water inlet along with the thermostat unit and its attached gasket from the water pump to finally extract the gasket from the thermostat. Put the thermostat into water and slowly heat it to measure its valve opening temperature at a range of 80 - 84 degrees Celsius (176 - 183 degrees Fahrenheit); if the thermostat fails to match this normal specification it needs replacement. A correct measurement of valve lift should reach 8.5 mm (.335 inch) at 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit). Thermostat replacement is necessary if this measurement does not meet specifications. Check the valve closing status at temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) because an improper closure requires a thermostat replacement. The installation process requires installing a new gasket onto the thermostat followed by positioning the thermostat downward with its jiggle valve visible before tightening the 3 nuts to 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Start by connecting the lower hose to the radiator then pour engine coolant inside and begin the engine while checking for fluid leakage.
